Nissan Engel
| "The lively but
subtle colors and rich painterly effects found in his art reflect a
strong French influence, yet when he interlaces Islamic calligraphy
and metallic substances, an exotic opulence appears which also
reflects his Middle Eastern background." Engel's abstract portrayals of the role music plays in his life and in his art are comparable to the way the American artist Frederic McMahon gives his viewers a perspective on music. For Engel, the musical elements provides an emotion in his paintings that nothing else can, although he also uses chess symbols, handwritten letters from the turn of the century and lace in much the same way he does musical symbols. |
