A living Master!!

Mr. Tarkay has exhibited extensively both in Israel, the US and abroad. Tarkay has achieved recognition as a leading representative of a new generation of figurative artists. He works with media, including oil, acrylic, silkscreen serigraph, and watercolor.  While summing up the characteristics of his model subject without relying on the precise copying of natural forms, or the patient assembling of exact detail, Tarkay's rich tapestry of form and color is achieved through the use of silk-screen painting. Many colors are laid over one another and used to create texture and transparency.

His works were also shown and well received at the International Art Expo in New York in 1896 and 1987
for works in several forms of media, including oil, acrylic and watercolor. Today, Tarkay is considered one of the most influential artists of the early 21st Century and has inspired dozens of artists throughout the world, with his contemplative depiction of the female figure. Three hardcover books have been written on Tarkay and his art, the most recent, Tarkay, Profile of an Artist was published in 1997.

Itzchak Tarkay was born in 1935 in Subotica on the Yugoslav - Hungarian border. He studied at Avni Institute of Fine Art in Tel Aviv and the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem. The inspiration for Tarkay's work clearly lies with French Impressionism and the "Ecole de Paris" his drawing with the "Facon de Faire" of Toulouse-Lautrec. The works have a rich and sensuous palette executed in a tapestry-like affect. The drawing style that reveals a debt to Toulouse-Lautrec coupled with an almost Fauvist use of colour. Tarkay likes to negate image and form. The dress of the woman meets with non realistic form creating a dialectic between the Figurative and the Abstract.

Now, that TARKAY is in his 70's, his work has become looser and more impressionistic. And, of course, his artistic endeavors have decreased in quantity and in size. In the last 20 years, the in US, he has become very well known and collectible.  His art has many followers and copiests.

Some of his most popular paintings are: "Countryside Ladies Coffee", "Ladies Seaside Tea", "Ladies Seascape Cafe", "Ladies of Luxury", and "Reflecting Lady".

We have his paintings in te following formats:

Silkscreen Hand Embellished w/Acrylic on Canvas
