Biography

Itzhak Tordjman was born in Casablanca, Morocco on August 8, 1956. At the age of 5 his family emigrated to Israel. Following his military service, Tordjman attended the prestigious Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris on a full scholarship from the French government.

Itzhak Tordjman has had many exhibits in France, Israel, the United States and Canada. His work has been shown at the Grand Palais museum in Paris. He is the recipient of several awards and prizes including special recognition from the President of Israel, UNESCO and the Museum of Jewish Art in Paris. Featured in this exhibit is the artist's epic work "The Five Scrolls" on loan from Beverly Hills collectors and philanthropists Jack and Rachel Gindi. Illuminating the text with his tremendous talent for the nuances of color, Itzhak Tordjman expresses through his art the emotional state and spiritual dimensions of each scroll.

From the narrative prose of Ruth to the symbolic love poetry of Song of Songs, the lamentations of the scroll of Eicha, the wisdom of Ecclesiastes and the dramatic history of Esther, painter Itzhak Tordjman translates verses into colorful images.

The subjects of Tordjman's remaining works in this exhibit glow with inner inspiration. With their soul plunged in the book in study, in prayer or in meditation they intimate a sense of deep rooted spirituality.
