Biography

Linda Pirri is recognized as a contemporary master of the ancient art form called "Serti"...creating paintings on pure silk.

This exquisite art technique was practiced in ancient cultures to create silk screens, paintings and ceremonial kimonos

you see in museums today. She begins with a pure white piece of the finest silk and stretches it as a painter does a

canvas, but instead of paint, only the finest French Dyes are used. Her painting style is considered fauvist.

Linda Pirri began receiving awards and commendations for her artwork in the second grade.  She received her B.A. in Art

at California State Fullerton.  During a trip to Mexico Pirri visited a silk studio where she learned the basics of silk painting

and combined those techniques with other skills from her varied art background.  After working relentlessly to perfect her

skills Linda quit her regular job and determined to earn a living from her art.

After leaving the corporate world in 1993, Linda Pirri and David Gross created a flourishing art business based on Linda's

vivid expressionistic landscape paintings on silk. Her prolific collection of original art and limited editions are available to

view at the link above. In September 1993, Linda opened her first studio in Lanikai, Oahu creating her own personal paradise.

Linda Pirri's style is both fauvist and expressionistic.  The fauvist movement started with  The name was created by art critic Louis

Vauxcelles to a group of artists that included Gustave Moreau was the movement's inspirational teacher; a professor at the École

des Beaux-Arts in Paris.  As a Symbolist painter he pushed his students to think outside of the lines of formality and to follow

their visions.

The French word, "Fauves" means "wild beasts".

The leaders of the movement, Moreau's top students, were Henri Matisse and André Derain. Observe the colors and style used

by Matisse below and compare it to the Linda Pirri prints that we present for sale.
